How Porcelain Paving Is Made

If you don’t know much about the new, revolutionary product on the paving market, let us tell you more. The man-made porcelain paving solution is manufactured using a specific process and is designed to be highly durable and hard wearing.

Using a combination of clays, sands and other natural minerals, the mixture is pressed into a mould at high pressure and then baked in a kiln at extremely high temperatures. Following this, a vitrification process is carried out to further increase strength of the porcelain paving, reduce porosity levels, and aid resistance against scratching and other factors.

To style a polished appearance and improve the strength of the porcelain paving slabs, elements such as quartz, feldspar and silica are chosen to combine with the clay at high temperatures.

Next, the material is dried and coloured or printed on before being fired in the kiln at temperatures as high as 1,200 degrees Celsius. Then it is slowly cooked, which is an equally important part of the process as heating the porcelain.

Porcelain paving is vitrified to provide a solid and hard-wearing composition, which makes them a long-lasting choice for applications inside or outside the home.

The extremely low porosity of the porcelain patio tiles ensures that they are not affected by changes in temperature, from hot to cold. This means that there is minimised risk of frost build-up or the product's colour and appearance changing or fading due to sunlight.

Plus, as a result of the light, textured surface porcelain paving is manufactured to have, slip-resistance is another great feature, with a UK standard R11 slip rating.

Due to the considerable advancements in inkjet printing technology, there is now a huge range of choice when it comes to porcelain paving. Natural materials such as stone, slate, wood and pattern finishes are all achievable and indistinguishable from the real product.

In addition, size is always consistent throughout each batch because the paving is both calibrated and rectified to form sharp and square edges.
