Tips For Maintaining Porcelain Paving

Posted on 17th November 2021

These days, exterior spaces have become an extended part of our home to entertain family and friends or simply chill out. The porcelain paving trend means that we can now transition our indoor living style outdoors too. So, it’s out with the concrete flagstones and timber decking and in with the new low maintenance, cost-effective porcelain tiles.

Available in a wide range of colours, effects, and collections to mimic natural stone, porcelain paving slabs are manufactured to be extremely durable as well as frost and fade resistant. Therefore, not only do they look great but they can withstand the unpredictable British weather.

Porcelain outdoor tiles are also resistant to moisture, which makes them difficult to stain. So, you don’t need to worry about algae spots, BBQ spills, or stubborn marks.

Despite being a fairly low maintenance flooring option, porcelain paving still requires some upkeep to ensure it looks fantastic all year round. Cleaning them once or twice a year is enough to keep them looking flawless.

Here are our tips for maintaining your porcelain tiles.

What cleaning equipment you’ll need

To ensure a thorough clean, you’ll need the right tools for the job. We’d advise that you begin using a soft-bristled brush to work at making the surface clean. Then fill a bucket of warm water, or use a pressure washer or hose pipe if you prefer.

What cleaning products you’ll need

Choosing what cleaning products you require to clean your porcelain slabs will all depend on the level of grim that has accumulated. If your porcelain paving has only built up a thin layer or dirt then standard washing up liquid will work effectively.

On the other hand, if there is algae present on your tiles then a more intensive cleaner will be required. Our VillaFix™ Porcelain Cleaner and VillaFix™ Blackspot & Algae Remover are high-quality products that are suitable for both interior and exterior use and effectively remove grime without damaging the grout or porcelain tiles.

How to clean your porcelain tiles

Start by using a soft broom to sweep away any loose debris, then fill a bucket with warm water and washing up liquid to create a cleaning mix. If your tiles are in need of a deeper clean, now is the time to add your intensive cleaner instead of washing up liquid.

Next, use a jet wash with the warm soapy water to wash away any dirt and grime. If necessary, scrub the tiles clean to get them looking the very best that they can.

Once this has been done, simply leave the porcelain slabs to dry and they’ll be back to looking immaculate.
