Designing A Layout For Your Porcelain Paving

Posted on 1st November 2022

If you are looking to create a fabulous and functioning outdoor space to use throughout the year, at Porcelain Paving Direct we have the materials to help.

You have come to the right place for high quality porcelain paving slabs that provide a luxurious aesthetic and plenty of practicalities for any garden. We can also help you plan your patio layout in preparation for the installation of porcelain tiles.

To get started, the most important thing you need to decide is the location of your patio. Consider what the space will be used for; whether you wish to entertain guests, relax, or have it as an area for children and pets.

You will need to consider what direction the sun lies at certain times of the day as well as large pieces of furniture you may want to feature, such as BBQs or hot tubs.

Once you have decided the location, planning the layout of your porcelain paving patio is made easier. You then just need to design the surroundings of your patio to complement the rest of your garden.

How to plan a patio layout

The best way to plan your patio layout is with pen and paper. Draw to scale exactly what you want to feature on your patio and where, ensuring you leave more room between furniture and plants than you might think to prevent a cluttered feel.

If you can’t get the full idea using pen and paper, another way to visualise your space is to use some rope or string to physically mark out the patio area. Use either of these materials to mark out the perimeter, then place your desired items where you see them looking best.

How to position your patio

When considering the position of your patio, firstly think about how you will use the space. Then decide where you feel it will look best in your garden and whether or not the area is exposed to the view neighbours.

If you plan on using your patio as an outdoor dining area, a spot in the shade would be ideal. However, if you are a sun worshipper and enjoy topping up your tan, your patio will need to be positioned in a sunny part of the garden.

Patios are positioned just outside the backdoor of most properties for the convenience of entering and exiting. However, if you have a large garden and the sun spot is right up the top, you may want to install your patio where the sun naturally hits.

Should you want a private setting for your patio, consider fencing, strategic planting, or shading for the area.

Choosing the materials for your patio

The way you design your patio may reflect the overall style of your home and your personality too. While keeping an eye on the latest porcelain paving trends is good, your patio should meet your unique requirements.

If you have a modern home, contemporary options like our Kandla Grey porcelain paving or Ardesie Beige porcelain slabs are a great choice.

When designing your patio layout and consider the porcelain patio materials for the job, it is important to look at your budget and the size of your patio. Once you know your budget, you can think more about the style and finish you want from your patio.
